ADDC Budget Response 2009/10
Tue, May 12, 2009
The Federal Budget 2009/10 has been framed in the context of the Global Financial Crisis (GFC). It is evident that there is a clear intent of the Australian Government to honour its commitment to meet Millennium Development Goals, albeit some modifications to accommodate the global recession.
ADDC appreciates the context in which the government have had to make their decisions and is supportive of initiatives that will focus on responding to the effects of the financial crisis; food securities, education, health and infrastructure programs. It is disappointing that there has not been a greater allocation for programs that will increase activities that address the Development for All: Towards a disability –inclusive Australian aid program 2009-2014. ADDC will continue to work in partnership with AusAID to ensure people with disabilities are comprehensively included and supported in all aspects of the aid program.
The total Aid Budget for 2009/10 delivers $3,818.8 million, an increase from the 2008/09 Aid Budget of $3,659.9 million. This is a real increase1 of 5.6%. The official development assistance program for 2009/10 translates to 0.34% of GNI.
