A helping hand

Rehabilitation services can play a vital role in a child’s development and limiting the impact of impairment on daily family life. Some disabilities cannot be prevented with education or ‘fixed’ by surgery, yet there’s still much that can be done. Here, a child receives physiotherapy. With physiotherapy and long-term rehabilitation, children and their families can learn to manage impairments in daily family life.

According to the WHO, only 1-2% of disabled people in low-income communities receive the rehabilitative services they need (May-Teerink; 1999).
