Vocational training is a feature of many development programs, though often not available to people with a disability. Women with a disability are less likely than men to find employment. This visually impaired woman tells a story of how vocational training taught her to make household materials with bamboo that she could sell. She feels her income makes her more valued and gives her family a better life.
Persons with disabilities must have equal opportunities for productive and gainful employment in the labour market (DFID; 2000).
