The motto employed by many Disabled Persons Organisations (DPOs) is ‘Nothing about us without us’. In this picture, Sila, a young man who is blind, is helping Meleane learn how to use a Braille machine that helps her to read and write. Sila began teaching three students several months ago. He is now working with the school to plan future classes and to provide these opportunities for more children.
An estimated 98% of disabled children in developing countries receive no education (400 million R; 2006).
