In December 2006, the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities was adopted. It states people with a disability have equal rights – including the right of access to public spaces, health services, education, employment and development programs. In action, it will mean the inclusive world shown here, where a person with an impairment is teaching a class of students becomes an everyday occurrence rather than an exception.
‘The principles proclaimed in the Charter of the United Nations recognise the inherent dignity and worth and the equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family as the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world’ (UN; 2006).
