Protecting children from abuse and neglect is non-negotiable. Children and adults with a disability are often more vulnerable and have less chance to voice their fears and experiences. This young girl in a home for the intellectually disabled reminds us that all children have the right to a safe and child-friendly environment.
Women and girls with disabilities are 2–3 times more likely to be victims of physical and sexual abuse than those with no disabilities (DFID; 2000).
