Water – clean and accessible?

watercleanandaccessible.jpg

Dirty water causes 80% of disease in developing countries, killing up to 10 million people a year and causing disabilities like blindness. According to the World Bank, over one billion people have no access to clean drinking water. This picture reminds us that even when clean water is available, poor design can make it difficult for people with a disability to access or carry it.

For the majority of disabled people in low-income communities, their human rights to life, food, water and shelter are a daily struggle (WEDC; 2005).
