Helena has cerebral palsy, and without the help of an HIV/AIDS Orphans program, she wouldn’t be at school. Orphans like Mwanahamisi are trained as volunteers to help children with disabilities attend local schools. In return, the volunteer receives food, counselling and support. It’s a win-win for both Helena and Mwanahamisi!
More than half of Tanzania’s 34 million people live on less than US$1 per day. ... and there are more than 800,000 children who have been orphaned by AIDS (Reliefweb; 2006).
