International Women’s Day celebrates the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future and, in particular, the right to vote for women.
International Women’s Day honours the work of campaigners of women’s rights, celebrates women’s success and reminds us of inequities still to be redressed. The first International Women’s Day event was run in 1911. 2011 is the Global Centenary Year. Despite great achievements in the past 100 years, significant inequities persist.
In August 2010, as part of the ADDC Conference program, CBM Australia commissioned a team from the University of Sydney and RMIT University to undertake a short term project to report on research priorities in disability and development in Asia and the Pacific region, and on research capacity development.
Today, January 12th 2011, is anniversary of the Haiti earthquake. We have collected information to update you on the reconstruction of Haiti. As Haiti continue to rebuild their lives, we must not forget that many others are experiencing similar challenges in other parts of the world.
