ADDC welcomes the increase in aid funding of $530 million in 2010/11, and congratulates the Government in demonstrating its commitment to disability in development.
Disability was included as a New Budget Measure in the Government’s 2010-11 Budget announced on May 11 2020.
The Productivity Commission will investigate new approaches for funding and delivering long-term disability care and support. Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd, announced the inquiry at the National Disability Awards ceremony in Parliament House.
Australia has ratified the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, making Australia one of the first Western countries to ratify the Convention. Australia joins 29 other countries around the world in a move that aims to promote a global community in which all people with disability are equal and active citizens.
ACT Senator Gary Humphries will launch the ADDC and the exhibition. Other key speakers at the launch will include The Hon Greg Hunt MP, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Mr Abdus Sattar Dulal, Executive Director of a leading Bangladesh disability NGO.
