Disability and poverty cycle

Disability and poverty are closely related. Disability can lead to poverty and poverty can lead to disability. This is a cycle that must end.

Cycle of Poverty and Disability

Disability can be a cause of poverty as well as a consequence of poverty. Not only do people with disabilities experience a disproportionately high level of poverty; being poor increases their chances of having a disability and reduced their access to vital services. This cycle of disability and poverty for people with disabilities, their families and communities can be very hard to break.

Ending the Cycle

End the Cycle is a campaign of CBM and promotes the human rights and lived experience of persons with disabilities in low and middle income countries, addressing the cycle of poverty and disability. It seeks to support people with disabilities to tell their own stories in their own words.

This video from End the Cycle explains the cyclical relationship of poverty and disability and how the cycle can be broken.
