Acknowledgment of Country

ADDC acknowledges the First Nations people throughout Australia as the Traditional Custodians of the lands where we live, learn and work. We acknowledge their ongoing resilience, contributions and connection to land, culture and water, and we pay our respects to their Elders, past, present and future.

45 per cent of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people live with a disability or a long-term, restricting health condition. They are 2.1 times more likely to live with disability than other Australians, and 5 times more likely to experience a mental health condition (reference).  Australia’s First Nations people with disabilities participate in cultural activities at the same rates as those without disabilities. We pay our respects to their enduring spirit and inclusivity.

We strongly encourage all of our members to connect with and support the First People’s Disability Network Australia, the national organisation of and for Australia’s First Nations people with disability, their families and communities.  You can make a first step to join their community by becoming a Friend of FPDN.
