Meet our speakers
Naomi Tai
OPD DI-DRR Program Officer, People with Disabilities Solomon Islands
Naomi Tai is from the Solomon Islands. She is a young woman with disability that she acquired through birth. Currently she is working with the organisation of People with Disabilities Solomon Islands. Her role is a OPD DI- DRR Program Officer to support the Disability Inclusion in all 6 AHP Lead agencies to make sure that disability inclusion integrates across all their activities and programs in advocating for the rights of persons with disabilities across all sectors within Government key stakeholders, INGOs, AHP Partners NGOs and Communities. While the role has been recognized as a resource, advisor and facilitator, the demands for OPD time and expertise to engage with aid and humanitarian agencies and projects must be planned, agreed and adequately resourced so that DPOs are not drawn away from achieving their own core priorities. Naomi is also a committee member for Australia Humanitarian Program (AHP) Coordination Committee. Naomi also serves as a vice president for Disability Women Empowerment Association Solomon Islands, which serves and liaises with a wide range of women and girls with disabilities in country.
Jay Nasilasila
Coordinator Disaster Risk Reduction Unit, Fiji Disabled Peoples Federation
Jay Nasilasila is the Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) focal point for Fiji Disabled Persons Federation (FDPF) managing and coordinating disaster preparedness programs for FDPF and working closely with partners, such as the Australian Humanitarian Partnership (AHP) Disaster READY program partners. As a person with a physical disability and a wheelchair user from Vanua Levu, the Northern Island of Fiji, Jay knows firsthand how important it is to include people with disabilities in disaster risk reduction and preparedness activities.
Claudia Bailey
Disability-inclusive Disaster Risk Reduction Advisor, CBM Global
Claudia Bailey is the Disability-inclusive Disaster Risk Reduction Advisor at CBM Global. Claudia brings a wealth of knowledge on disability-inclusive DRR, holding a master’s degree in Disaster Studies and additional postgraduate qualifications in Disability Inclusion.
Claudia has worked in roles spanning climate risk programming and community-based flood warning systems, and has led and co-authored key research reports, including Our Lessons: Disability-Inclusive Disaster Risk Reduction, Organisations of Persons with Disabilities: Making a Difference in Vanuatu and Solomon Islands, and the OPD Call to Action titled We are the experts in our own lives: The priorities of people with disabilities regarding DRR. Claudia also works within her own community to support persons with disabilities through disability-inclusive disaster preparedness initiatives and trainings.
As someone with lived experience of multiple disabilities, Claudia is deeply committed to ensuring people with disabilities are supported and valued in leading DRR efforts.
