The Australian Disability and Development Consortium (ADDC) welcomes the Australian Government’s announcement of a $50 million investment through its new initiative, Stronger Movements, Stronger Futures, aimed at advancing disability rights across the Indo-Pacific.

“This is a milestone for advancing disability equity in our region,” said Kathryn Bloom, Executive Officer of ADDC. “By centring the leadership and lived experience of people with disabilities, this initiative lays the foundation for lasting, systemic change.”

The program furthers commitments under the Australian Government’s International Disability Equity and Rights Strategy (IDEARS) and represents the culmination of years of advocacy by Organisations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) and development partners to ensure inclusive policy and decision-making.

ADDC particularly commends the initiative’s collaboration with the International Disability Alliance (IDA), Pacific Disability Forum (PDF), and ASEAN Disability Forum. These partnerships are set to strengthen regional networks and amplify the voices of people with disabilities, driving progress toward equity and inclusion.

“As we celebrate the first anniversary of IDEARS, this investment signals Australia’s ongoing leadership in embedding disability rights within its aid program,” Ms Bloom added. “It’s a clear commitment to building a future where no one is left behind.”
